Ted Farron has been an active business and community member for thirty years. With a dynamic personality and a drive to succeed, Ted has mastered every phase of retail marketing in the meat business. Between 1972 and 1976, Ted opened several shops in Ontario and two in New Brunswick. When a downturn in the economy forced the bottom out of his business, Ted continued to strive forward. He worked with independents for a few years before, once again, striking out on his own. In 1984, he opened Farron's Gourmet Butcher Shop and never looked back. Ted achieved National Celebrity status with CBC's Midday program, which featured a segment titled "The Butcher Shop". In 1991 Ted was presented with the Entrepreneur of the Year award for Business Excellence. He's been a member of the Chamber of Commerce since 1992 and was awarded a Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada for his significant Contribution to Compatriots, the community and to Canada. In 1993 Farron's Gourmet Butcher Shop was selected as one of the Top Ten Businesses in Windsor. Two years later, Ted became a member of the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. He was sworn in as Chairman of the Board for the Windsor & District Chamber of Commerce for the 1999 - 2000 term of office. In an event that's only happened twice in the Chamber's 125 year history, Ted remained seated as Chairman of the Board for a consecutive term. On December 7th, 2001, Ted received the University of Windsor's prestigious Clark Award in recognition of his significant community commitment. Ted Farron is a motivational speaker, TV and radio personality. He's served on the board of the Better Business Bureau. His past involvements include: Consultant for the Federal Development Bank, member of the Windsor-Roseland Rotary Club, Chairman of the Futures Program for St. Clair College, member of the Windsor Women's Incentive Centre Advisory Committee, member of the Casino Advisory Board and Coach for the Windsor Amateur Boxing Club. On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, Ted is currently Co-Chairing a committee that's diligently working to solve the current physician shortage crisis in our under-serviced area. In December of 2002, Ted was presented with the Queen's Jubilee Medal for his extensive volunteer work in the community. Medals are presented to people whose "leadership" best demonstrates the responsibility of Canadian citizenship. On March 3rd, 2004, Leadership Windsor/Essex and RBC Royal Bank will present Ted with the 2004 Community Impact Award. The Community Impact Award honours a community leader who has made a significant impact on the local area through both workplace and community efforts. The award celebrates people who become visible in our community by rolling up their sleeves and solving issues facing Windsor/Essex, people who believe in civic unity, and are steering their communities to a better quality of life.
